Christ.

"Anyone wondering where all the good underground electronic music has gone (which isn't just a mash of clicks and cuts) might want to get off at this stop and check it out" –  Future Music (September 2003)

From an early age Christ. has been a musician.  His supposed collaborations in his formative years at school and early 20s are well documented, suffice to say that at the current point in time, determining the original source of cross-pollinated styles is futile.  Since his first solo release proper in 2002, he has proved to be as individual and creative as the next guy, forging a unique path of musical beauty that escapes derivation.

Can much more be said?  What's the point.  Christ.'s expert layers of melody, broken beats and textures say pretty much everything, and along with his popularity as a formidable live act, he is a rare breed indeed.  This bullet-point biography pretty much says it all.

Live Sessions

John Peel Show, Radio 1, Maida Vale, 17/12/2003

A session had been talked about for a while (like, why do we not have one yet?) and eventually the call came through in the summer of 2003 that christ. would play alongside Schneider TM on the Peel Show that December, to coincide with the UK tour at the time.  It was only when talking to various BBC staff after the event that this was no chance slot - john had already made up his mind that Christ. would do a show.  His gratitude was more than evident when, after an absolutely superb live performance, John asked for encore - which has rarely, if not ever, happened before.

Live Performance Highlights

Christ. stands out from many contemporary electronica acts in that his live performance centres around live keyboards, and from 2006 onwards, live drums.

Japan Mini-Tour, August 2002

In the summer of 2002, following the recent distribution deal for Benbecula through Third Ear in Japan, a mini tour was organised on the back of Christ.'s widely acclaimed debut EP "Pylonesque".

10/10/2002
Benbecula Showcase 2002

Headline slot at a Benbecula showcase night at Edinburgh’s Art College. with special guest appearances from Joni (Benbecula), Revererbaphon (Benbecula), Operator, and Triphaze (Privatelektro).  This was christ.'s first solo gig on Scottish soil, in a packed art college venue with some very intrigued and uninitiated people walking around.  It was clear that his live performance had become seriously fluid during his time in Japan and to say that the encore of "Absolom" that night was a moving experience would be understatement - what a night.

  10/05/2003
"Metamorphic Press Launch", Edinburgh
Benbecula Records took its first steps in telling the Scottish media that we were actually real people and put on a free press gig thanks to Andy Richardson and the Cabaret Voltaire staff.  With a specially commissioned video backdrop by Plan B, Christ. took to the stage and played to a thoroughly immersed but typically reserved crowd.
