It is not often that labels get the first fruits of an artist's
output and able to debut some music previously unavailable on any
other format. Welcome Michael Santos from Leeds, England,
whose demo was received in February 2006. Michael manipulates guitars, synths and basic minidisc
recordings to create a flowing hotchpotch of sound. He began
to develop an interest in electronics whilst studying for his
Politics degree at Leeds University, having played in a series of
indie-rock and post-rock bands over the years. This project allowed
him to develop an individual sound, a process that is not
always feasible when working as a band. Although he began to work
with beats, he found that working with free-flowing sounds came more
naturally, given their boundless nature and capacity to accommodate
the atmosphere of living in such a vibrant urban area.
“Matters” is Michael's debut release, and will document his
recordings of the first half of 2006.
Reviews
"As ambient album's go, Matters is a very good one. It is full of beautiful tracks and does not adhere to just one line of ambient sound but explores various avenues and scenarios from whence the music can come."
