Release Date: 16 July 2001

B 03 Lust / Wrong
After releasing Music Volume One in 2000, the label was already in
discussion with a number of artists with proposals for the first
proper solo release. Mikael Romanenko, a native of Sweden had
spent some time living in Scotland and met up with the label to
discuss a possible vinyl release. In the winter of 2000 Mikael
moved back to Sweden where he recorded some further material which was
promptly shipped over to Scotland for preview. The catalogue of
largely untitled songs was exactly what the label was looking for:
sparse and beautiful melodies, with an injection of purity and honesty
that was so lacking in music at that time. Needless to say the
distributor was blown away on hearing the final demo cut, and plans
were made for release in the New Year.
The selection of tracks took
over 6 months, and once an EP was finally together, extensive work
began on engineering the tracks into a cohesive flow, being as they
were recorded from different sources and equipment. Once
(finally) released, the EP went down in a storm in the likes of
Germany where it received Release of the Month at Hardwax in Berlin.
It sold out in a month.
Mikael Romanenko currently plays guitar with the very excellent Pen Expers in Sweden.

It is hard
to pinpoint the exact source of attraction to the six tracks on this EP,
needless to say once it has you, it has you for a long time. The
front cover artwork (designed by Mikael), mirrors the music's dark and
broody mood: a human body awkwardly sprawled on the ground, the
face and upper body obscured. Murdered?, or are they just in
peaceful sleep? The tracks within speak of pain, a longing, yet sarcastic optimism. The music seems partly stunted in
instrumentation and cosmically guarded, as if the artists is
deliberately holding back - but still the inner desire "to let go".
A loved one? A childhood memory? The concept could speak
volumes for all us.
